(pam) a big story we are following tonight: two bay area men have died, only a few days apart --- while snorkeling at the same beach in hawaii. both men died after being found unresponsive at a maui beach...the drownings happened at kama- olay beach park in maui ... a popular tourist spot. the most recent death was saturday - and the other bay area victim died last thursday. saturday's incident involved a 67-year-old man from castro valley. a first responder says, the man had been snorkeling with friends about 20- yards offshore. the friends noticed that he was not moving

..they brought him in to try to revive him..... but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. last thursday - at the same beach - a 50-year-old man from oakland diedafter he was found unresponsive in knee- deep water. beachgoers found him floating face down. the men's identities have not been publicly released . (steve)a man seriously hurt after being found on fire in a san francisco alley. now investigators are trying to figure out how it all happened. it happened near the 24th street bart station in the mission district. kron 4's haaziq maduyn talked to witnesses. a woman heading to work makes a grim discovery...a man engulfed in flames...sotit happened tuesday morning here in an alley at osage and 24th street in san francisco, a few steps away from the 24th street bart station. witnesses say a man was spotted sleeping in the alley and shortly after he was seen covered in flames. when the female good samaratin saw that she sprung into action. san francisco police

(steve) kron four's terisa estacio shows us the cases, the concern prosecutors have, and what's being done. two brothers, two cousins, and two sisters all children, and unique and special in their own ways, but sadly - share a common cause of death all 6, victims of vehicle accidents in the last 6 months, where the driver of another car now charged with their murder, and that is sounding alarms for bay area prosecutors. derek butts, contra costa deputy district atty. real large number of these cases, which is of grave concern." contra costa deputy district atty derek butts is handling the prosecution of the most recent case - noe saucedo. sacedo of pittsburg, now charged with 2 counts of murder, and posession of a controlled substance, and evading a peace officer in last weeks horrendous crash in antioch. the two young girls, lenexy and camilia both died due to injuries suffered in the crash. back in november, this devastating crash - where four family members died, including two teen boys, joe and baden. the group was coming back from a basketball game, when this man, fred lowe allegedly plowed into their car. the boys' fathers also killed. lowe, had a several prior dui convictions and was driving on a suspended license he is in custody, and his case is moving through the court system. and then this case, back in june - where this man lemuel wilson now faces multiple murder charges

for killing brothers vincent and lorenzo in concord. authorities alledge wilson was driving under the influence when he slammed into the family car in concord, and took off. he later was arrested and is in custody, for murder and hit and run. all of these happened in contra costa county - and now this warning coming from prosecutors dealing with these grime cases. butt.s what the people of contra costa county should know, if you drive drunk or drive in an extremely flagrantly reckless manner, and you end up killing somebody, that our office is going to take a very close look with charging you with murder and lastly butts. and you could spend the rest of your life in prison if you are convicted. in contra costa county, te kron four news. (steve) police in the east bay are looking for a gunman after three people were shot. it happened on market avenue in north richmond at around 9:30 last night. police say an argument may have lead to the shooting. the three people shot are recovering in the hospital tonight. police do not have a

description of the gunman. they are asking anyone with information to please come forward. (steve) after more than 24 hours... a standoff between police and a man wanted for felony warrants in san jose is now over. the standoff started around three p-m on sunday... and ended early this morning. it happened after police found the wanted man at the wyndham garden hotel on silicon valley boulevard near highway 101. authorities say the man barricaded himself into his room. people at the hotel had to be evacuated... and some were forced to sleep in the lobby. but that standoff is now over. (pam) the foggy weather created problems on bay area highways this morning. 10- cars were involved in two separate crashes... on state highway-37 in sonoma county. in the first crash... three cars collided just west of lakeville highway at around 8:30. then about 30 -seconds later... seven other cars and a big rig crashed in the same area. four people were taken to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries. police say, visibility in the fog

was about 50 -to 100- feet at the time of the crashes. lawrence karnow: the fog was very thick this morning before clearing. we enjoyed some afternoon sunshine and cool temperatures but another storm is taking aim at the bay area. you can see on the doppler radar that the rain is well to the north. on the satellite you can see this cold storm as it begins to drop out of the gulf of alaska. it will bring heavy snow to the sierra...maybe over a foot on the higher peaks. expect slow travel and dangerous driving conditions in the sierra with snow and wind tomorrow. around the state we'll see rain through northern and central calfornia while they'll enjoy 60s in the south. we will see rain developing in the morning in the north bay and moving south. rain will be heavy at times with some gusty winds. rain will turn to (pam)the public may soon get two new places to view san francisco bay if observation decks are approved ..when and where you could get a new beautiful view (steve) a dog is found tied to a fence in vallejo... with no food or water... and little

(pam) a big story we are following tonight... a scare in san francisco and along the coast .. after an

earthquake in alaska triggers a tsunami warning. this is video... as the 7-point-nine magnitude earthquake hit about 175- miles offshore in the gulf of alaska. the earthquake caused the tsunami warning all along the west coast. kron 4's spencer blake spoke with u-s- g-s officials ... about the danger of a tsunami. :00-:10 usgs explains quake effect:10-:17 brian kilgore ÷ usgs geophysicist:17-1:30 usgs explains quake effect seven-point-nine magnitude.the shaker off the alaskan coast tuesday morning was the world's biggest since september.people felt some shaking hundreds of kilometers away."this is a large earthquake, no doubt about it. from the human impact issue it wasn't such a big deal."part of the reason it wasn't a big deal, is because it was a strike-slip earthquake.that's where two plates slide laterally against one another, and don't produce much vertical motion.this is what usually happens along the fault lines in the bay area. but what's most common in the gulf of alaska, are subduction zone quakes."this line here marks the subduction zone."

that's when one plate, the pacific plate in this case - slides underneath another plate - the north american plate.had that happened with seven-point-nine magnitude... "there would have been up and down motion of the ocean bottom, which would have displaced ocean water, which would have generated a tsunami that eventually would have made its way down to the bat area."you probably noticed the alert you got on your phone, if you are signed up to get them from san francisco's department of emergency management, for example, was for a tsunami watch."the potential for a tsunami was being evaluated and not confirmed.""the prudent thing to do was to issue a tsunami alert."if it had escalated to a warning, you would have heard sirens.inundation maps from the state show how san francisco's coastline might have been affected.after about three hours, scientists could confirm that there áwas no tsunami danger, and the watch was canceled.francisco, spencer blake, kron four news. kron four's rob fladeboe reports now, they have been through this once before. it was just after 3:30 this morning and michael enns was snoozing snugly aboard his cal 33 here in the upper harbor when there came a knock on the cabin door.michael enns/boat owner "...they had people going from boat to boat telling people to prepare to evacuate if necessary..."the alert was cancelled a few hours later but enns cold not help recall the tsunami that damaged his and scores of other boats here back in 2011. some 2 dozen boats were sunk as the tsunami waves surged in and out of the harbor for several hours.michael enns '.....and i got damaged by other boats that had sunk and hit my boat from below..."rob fladeboe/santa cruzthe county 911 dispatchers were also on standby along with the county office of emergencyservices. melody macdonald/santa cruz regional 9-1-1"....if it had escalated we would have notified o.e.s and put out a reverse 911 message code red

(steve) donations are pouring in for the 13 siblings who were held captive in southern california. more than 120-thosuand dollars has been been donated so far. the siblings were kept chained to beds for months by their parents... and starved so much that their growth was stunted. authorities say people from across the world have been donating money, toys, blankets, and clothing. and several people are offering to foster or adopt the children who range in ages from two to 29. the parents -- david and louise turpin were arrested after sheriff's deputies found the malnourished children inside their home in riverside county. they have pleaded not guilty to torture and other charges. accounced it on its official twitter page today. masekela was known as the father of south african jazz... and especially the song dedicated to the leader of the anti- apartheid movement - nelson mandela... it was the 1986 hit - "bring him back home." the grammy- nominated artist toured with paul simon ... and was a major player on the jazz and world music scene for decades. masekela was 78 years old. bay will get to decide whether an embattled judge keeps his job later this year. the registrar of voters in santa clara county say enough signatures were collected to add superior court judge aaron persky's petition to the ballot this fall. persky sentenced former stanford swimmer brock turner to six months in jail for sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman. organizers angry with the light sentence collected more than 90- thousand signatures to recall the judge. persky's current term ends in 20-22. if successful, it will be the third time in state history that a sitting judge has been recalled. campaign -- more than 500 million straws are used in the u-s every day. the bill-- ab 18-84 introduced last week by majority leader ian calderon out of los angeles county. now this bill would deal only directly with dine-in restaurants to start a "straws-upon-request" policy. calderon -- in his release with the bill-- said the bill doesn't ban plastic straws -- but wants to reduce the usage. (steve)a group named "we stand with oakland" is throwing a hail mary to try to keep the raiders in oakland. they are exploring new legal action to keep the team in town. or at least win the rights to the name, logo and colors for a future expansion team. kron 4's gabe slate spoke with the group's spokesperson who explained why they think they can win this fight.

(pam) the public may soon get two new places to view the san francisco bay.... there is a new proposal to build decks off yerba buena island.... on piers near oakland. there was a meeting today at the bridge yard building. the project would build observation decks on piers which were part of the old eastern bridge span... instead of demolishing the remaining piers. officials say, this is an opportunity to expand access to the bay... the total cost is still being explored. (pam) what many people may not know, is that the some cities offer something known... as a bulky item pickup for large unwanted

items... it is free.... but there are certain rules that must be followed (steve) however sometimes the free service get abused which could make it hard for other people or worse leve a huge mess gc free bulky item pick up problems while driving home i noticed this pile of debris located on the corner of fifth and king street, in san francisco while i was there i watched where is all this stuff coming from . big item pickup for tomorrow morning . more stuff being added to the pile .. a pile which covered the entire sidewalk and spilled into the street i also noticed a do not leave bulky items here sign hanging from a tree by a piece of string . this was all outside of the arterra condominium complex the pile had everything in it including the bathroom sink fast forward to the next day i return only to find the pile still therethese always some kind of trash there from the apartments and all that it always a mess so start making phone calls .while i was waiting i noticed more items being added to the pile at one

point workers from the department of public works were passing by so i flagged them down .. they started documenting the site it turns out the someone in the complex on january 4th scheduled a bulk item pickup for the morning i returned .and according to dpw they did everything absolutely correct which was contact recology, recology gave them the ok to put items outside.what was not done right was the resident the way that they put the items out they didn't put them out as they should have i put in a call to recology and they confirmed the bulk pick up it was for 9 miscellaneous boxes and 1 end table. .the max for bulky there must be a sign attached with the letter bir which means bulky item recycle and the most important part it must not block the sidewalk apparently the complex ordered the pickup and let everyone in the building know know so everything was dumped . one free bulky pickup is permitted per
